It's time to start shopping for ingredients for your Thanksgiving meal. Thanksgiving is always the one holiday that I volunteer to host because I enjoy making different variations of traditional Thanksgiving meal side dishes. I don't just shop anywhere when I need fresh, natural, & organic ingredients. I shop the Wisconsin grocery that offers new everyday fresh quality ingredients - Pick 'n Save.
If you have not visited one of their newly rebranded stores in the Milwaukee and surrounding area, I would definitely make it a point to stop there for your holiday meals because not only do they live up to their New Every Day mission, but meal inspiration can be found everywhere. Pick 'n Save is not the Wisconsin grocery store for your basic shopping needs. It's a store where you will be inspired to cook healthy, fresh meals for your family.
Before I shop Pick 'n Save, I always check out the Downloadable Coupons that are available for me to load to my Fresh Perks card. This is a great perk for us shoppers who do not always remember to bring our printed coupons, or for those that are unable to print coupons at home. I can still save at Pick 'n Save with coupon when I run out of printer ink!
*Note: At this time, the store you choose when registering your Fresh Perks Card will be the only store the coupons will work at.
In addition to loading coupons to your Fresh Perks card, Pick 'n Save will guarantee low prices on many different items throughout the store for at least 77 days!
My husband really likes my Turkey Sausage Rice Stuffing with Cranberries recipes so I made it for a meal, and plan to make it again for Thanksgiving dinner! Everything you need to make this recipe can be found at Pick 'n Save. I decided to add the Roundy's All Natural Roasted Garlic & Mushroom Turkey Sausage to this recipe because it sounded like a great addition!
Turkey Sausage Rice Stuffing with Cranberries Recipe
2 cups Lundberg Country Wild Rice Blend
4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
3 tbsp olive oil
5 links raw sweet Italian Sausage
5 links Roundy's All Natural Roasted Garlic & Mushroom Turkey Sausage
10 celery stalks, chopped
1 large yellow onion, chopped
16 oz container of sliced mushrooms
3/4 cup dried cranberries
Cook rice according to package directions omitting the water and using the low-sodium chicken broth instead. This rice takes 45 minutes to cook so start that right away.
While rice is cooking, cook the fresh sweet Italian Turkey sausage in large heavy pan. I like to use my dutch oven because this recipe makes a huge amount and when stirring everything together, it doesn't spill over on to the stove.
Make sure you break the meat up into small pieces.
Once the sweet Italian turkey sausage is browned, add the Roundy's All Natural Roasted Garlic & Mushroom Turkey Sausage, casings removed. Break those into small pieces as well and mix together. The Roundy's sausage are already fully cooked. Remove from dutch oven or large skillet and place in a bowl.
Add the 3 tbsp of olive oil to the same pan and add the onion. Saute it until lightly browned and then add the celery. Cook the celery for about 10 minutes until it is softened.
Add the mushrooms to the same pan and cook for about 5 minutes while stirring.
Cover your skillet or dutch oven and let it sit for about 3 - 4 minutes until the mushrooms have a shrunk a little. Then, add the turkey sausage mixture and rice and mix well. The final step is adding the cranberries while the heat is still on. This will soften them a bit.
I have made the recipe ahead of time for Thanksgiving dinner so there was less for me to do the day of. It will only need to be heated through so it's a great side dish to have prepared ahead of time. Pick 'n Save is now social!
