We're in the process right now of remodeling our office and our new desk is going to be wall to wall to accommodate both myself and my husband. Since I have plenty of space to work with, this Mason Jar Desk Organizer worked out perfectly - and it looks great too!
Because the new desk will not have any drawers, I needed to come up with a way to organize essentials like pens, pencils, batteries, paper clips, and markers. I had a small balsa wood crate sitting in the basement that I had been holding on to for quite awhile. Every time my husband was in an organizing mood, he would ask me what I was going to do with it. I would just tell him I didn't know at the time, but would eventually find a use for it. I'm so glad I kept it all these years because it makes the perfect desk organizer with mason jars. I just painted it with black chalk board paint to give it a new life.
I decided to add a sewing kit to my Mason Jar Desk Organizer because the needle and thread never seem to be in the same place. Since I like to focus on one or two colors when decorating a room, I chose a bluish green and brown. I was lucky enough to find a handkerchief at Hobby Lobby on clearance for $1 and used that for the sewing kit pin cushion. I also added a flower in those same colors since flowers make everything look pretty.
Above are simple instructions on how to make the lid of a mason jar sewing kit. I feel confident now that whenever I need a needle and thread, I will not have to search junk drawers.
If this Mason Jar Desk Organizer is an idea you like, but don't have a random balsa wood crate laying around like I did, I would suggest trying Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or even Goodwill.
